Azure Update Management in Practice

Service description

In this workshop, we will analyze together with you how to efficiently use Azure Update Management for the administration and automation of Windows updates – both for virtual machines in Azure and for hybrid server environments (on-premises or in other clouds). The goal is to gain transparency about the patch status of your systems, reliably plan regular updates, and minimize potential security risks.

Assessment of your existing system landscape, deployed platforms (Azure, on-premises, hybrid), licensing (Azure Arc, Log Analytics, Automation Accounts), as well as discussion of your organizational requirements for patch management.

In the workshop, participants will first receive an introduction to Azure Update Management, including an overview of the underlying architecture, how it works, and licensing aspects. Subsequently, the existing infrastructure will be reviewed to determine which systems should be integrated – such as Azure VMs, local servers, or machines connected via Azure Arc.

Building on this, the setup and configuration of Update Management will be addressed. Another focus is on monitoring and reporting, particularly regarding the analysis of update compliance, error detection, and deriving concrete measures for follow-up. Additionally, best practices and security aspects will be discussed.
